I was excited to try a few different things with this sculpture. First, I wanted to play with the idea of Strait vs. Straight. We usually think the path to God is Straight, but the scriptures actually use the other word.

Second, I wanted to continue my exploration of non-standard frames. The obvious bit is the triangular shape, however, I also wanted to mess with where the picture ends and the frame begins.

And, third, I wanted to experiment with wall art that isn't a maze. When I first started thinking of wall art, the mazes seemed like a good place to start, but even at the beginning, I had other ideas. This piece is part dexterity test, part focus challenge, and part meditation.

I made the sculpture from maple with an alder frame. The single 3/8 inch steel ball is moved through the maze with the help of a half inch long, 1/4 inch diameter neodymium magnet embedded in the maple wand. The glass is 1/8 inch window pane grade.

It is 28 inches wide, 25 inches tall, and 1.5 inch thick.
